Pushpendra Singh: A Victim of Mistaken Identity and Online Abuse
Filmmaker Pushpendra Singh recently faced severe online harassment due to a case of mistaken identity. This incident began when actor Satendra Soni shared a video on Instagram, mistakenly asking for help regarding a financial dispute with another filmmaker of the same name.
After the video went viral, Pushpendra found himself tagged in numerous posts urging others to attack him. He reached out for a resolution, requesting people to be cautious before targeting someone on social media. Although Satendra later shared the correct contact information, leading to a brief reprieve, the situation escalated when the other Pushpendra deactivated his account, resulting in further trolling and abuse directed at him.
Pushpendra emphasized that he has never met Satendra or the other filmmaker. He stated, "I belong to independent cinema and rarely watch mainstream films. I was aware of the other Pushpendra due to his film 'Ajmer 92', but this recent incident was unprecedented. It highlights a dangerous trend where people attack others based solely on a name without verifying the facts."
The filmmaker expressed concern about the damage to his reputation just as he was preparing to work on his next independent film. He lamented, "What troubles me the most is the abuse from strangers and the harm to my reputation in the industry. I hope the industry takes the time to verify information before jumping to conclusions about individuals."
On Satendra's allegations regarding mistreatment in the industry, Pushpendra stated, "What he described is unacceptable. No artist should face such exploitation. I began my career as an actor after graduating from FTII, but left due to the struggles involved. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else in the industry."
