Exploring Folklore: Ayushmann Khurrana and Nawazuddin Siddiqui Discuss ‘Thamma’

Mumbai, Actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are excited about showcasing Indian folk stories in their upcoming film, "Thamma." The duo believes it's the perfect time to introduce these narratives to a global audience.

Both actors fondly recall growing up with stories of Vikram and Betaal, making their exploration of similar themes in the movie particularly thrilling.

"Thamma" centers around Alok, a journalist from Delhi, who unexpectedly encounters a world of vampires, including a character played by Siddiqui.

Khurrana remarked, "This trend of delving into our culture is wonderful. As we embrace our roots, we find a greater global audience intrigued by our stories. It’s a refreshing change in Indian cinema, moving away from foreign locales to our own rich heritage."

Siddiqui echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that local tales promote Indian culture on the world stage: "The more we focus on our traditions, the more we can share our diverse narratives with the world. There are countless stories waiting to be told, even from our grandparents’ tales."

"Thamma" is the latest entry in the horror-comedy genre, following films like "Stree" and "Bhediya." Produced by Maddock Films, it aims to continue the success of its predecessors.

Khurrana expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Maddock horror-comedy universe, sharing the screen with familiar faces from previous films, and is thrilled to explore the untold stories of Vikram Betaal.

Interestingly, both actors had their breakout years in 2012, with Siddiqui in "Gangs of Wasseypur" and Khurrana in "Vicky Donor."

"Thamma" is set to hit theaters during Diwali, promising to be a captivating blend of horror and humor while celebrating Indian folklore.
