How Vidya Balan’s Big Break Came at an Enrique Iglesias Concert
Vidya Balan's journey to stardom is nothing short of extraordinary. The talented actress recently shared how her Bollywood debut in Parineeta (2005) came about in the most unexpected setting—at an Enrique Iglesias concert.
In a conversation with Bombay Times, Vidya recalled that life-changing night in Mumbai back in 2004. She was attending the concert with her friend Pavitra, eagerly trying to get closer to the stage when director Pradeep Sarkar reached out to her. With her phone off and Enrique taking a break between songs, Pradeep had to call Pavitra to find Vidya.
Pavitra handed the phone to Vidya, who was told by Pradeep that famous filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra wanted to speak with her. Although she hesitated, they made their way to a quieter spot, and that’s when destiny struck. Vidhu told her, 'You are my Parineeta.' As Enrique returned to the stage to perform Hero, Vidya was overwhelmed with emotion, recalling, 'I couldn’t stop crying. My hands and legs were trembling. It is undoubtedly one of the most special moments of my life.'
Reflecting on that moment, Vidya described it almost as poetic, saying, 'So, when people ask me if I am going to his concert, I jokingly say…I completed 20 years in the movies. No wonder he’s coming back to celebrate that!'
As for the song she would dedicate to Enrique, Vidya stated it would be Piyu Bole from Parineeta, calling it 'poetic justice.'
The excitement surrounding Enrique Iglesias's return to Mumbai after more than two decades is palpable, with fans eagerly anticipating his performance at the MMRDA Grounds on October 29 and 30.
