Varun Grover Condemns Bengaluru Couple’s Alleged Murder of Delivery Agent as Hate Crime
Filmmaker and writer Varun Grover has voiced strong condemnation over a tragic incident in Bengaluru, where a Zepto delivery agent was allegedly murdered by a couple after their car was hit by his bike. The shocking event has ignited significant outrage on social media.
A viral CCTV video depicts the moment a car collides with the delivery boy's bike. The footage reveals that the couple pursued the victim for two kilometers before ramming into his motorcycle, resulting in his death and injuring a friend who was riding with him. The couple, Manoj Kumar and Aarti Sharma, reportedly returned to the scene to collect evidence of the incident.
In response to the video, Grover took to X (formerly Twitter), asserting, “This is not road rage, this is hate crime. This reflects a deep-seated disgust from the privileged towards those they deem sub-human based on their class, caste, religion, or gender.” He emphasized that such acts of violence are symptomatic of a broader societal issue.
The public's reaction has been swift, with many online users echoing Grover's sentiments and demanding severe punishments for the accused. Comments on social media range from calls for life imprisonment for the perpetrators to concerns about the overall state of law and order in the country.
Reports confirm that both Manoj Kumar and Aarti Sharma have been arrested by the Bengaluru police. The victim, identified as Darshan, was off duty during the incident. His pillion rider sustained injuries but survived.
