John Cena Bids Farewell: A Look at His Retirement and Celebrity Reactions
WWE superstar John Cena has officially announced his retirement from professional wrestling, signaling the conclusion of an era that shaped modern sports entertainment. Cena's last match ended in a loss to Gunther at a Saturday night event held in Washington, D.C.
In a recent interview with Tom Rinaldi for WWE, Cena expressed his decision to retire, saying, "I made a promise to the WWE that I would not stick around when my skills can’t match the product, and they can’t. I’m 48. My 40-yard time has gone down. I can’t match up with the product now, and that’s okay, because what I do isn’t who I am. The realization of that has helped me come to like, no, let these guys have it now because they’re really good. All I would be doing is a disservice to the consumer if I go any point beyond this."
Following the announcement, numerous celebrities took to social media to share their thoughts and memories of Cena. Indian actor Varun Dhawan shared a story on Instagram featuring Cena’s iconic entry song, "You Can’t See Me," as he posed for a photo.
Lilly Singh also took to Instagram, reminiscing about her collaborations with Cena. She remarked, "John Cena came to my house by himself. No publicist, no agent, no manager, drove by himself. The most down-to-earth celeb I’ve worked with. Obviously, I don’t see you - but I see you." She similarly shared a video with Cena's iconic theme playing in the background.
Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock, expressed his admiration on X, stating, "John, you epitomize one of my favorite quotes, 'It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.' Congratulations on your historic and extraordinary WWE career, my friend. Enjoy the last ride!"
Undertaker shared his own heartfelt message, reflecting on their long history together. He said, "Nice job. Those were the words I said to you 23 years ago when you debuted. Now, on the day of your final match, I say again…nice job. Your passion for our business and dedication to our fan base is unmatched. Enjoy the last ride tonight, my friend."
John Cena’s Connection to Bollywood
Notably, Cena has expressed admiration for Bollywood icons such as Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, and Amitabh Bachchan. He has shown interest in collaborating with these actors on film projects and has even indicated a fondness for Bollywood music and dance sequences.
In a recent AMA session on X, Shah Rukh Khan was asked to describe Cena in one word. He praised Cena, saying, "He is a rock star. Very humble and kind." Additionally, Priyanka Chopra Jonas worked alongside Cena in the film "Heads of State," which premiered earlier this year.
