Ram Gopal Varma Hails ‘Dhurandhar’ as a Transformative Milestone in Indian Cinema

Mumbai: Renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has lauded the film 'Dhurandhar', describing it as a significant advancement in Indian cinema. Director Aditya Dhar expressed his feelings of validation and excitement, recalling his early days in Mumbai with dreams of working alongside Varma.

In a heartfelt message on X, Varma, known for classics like 'Rangeela' and 'Satya', stated that 'Dhurandhar' has profoundly altered the trajectory of Indian cinema.

He emphasized that the film represents not merely a cinematic experience but a ‘quantum leap’ that transcends traditional filmmaking. Varma highlighted, "Dhurandhar" commands attention and redefines storytelling by engaging the audience's mind and emotions.

Varma praised Dhar’s approach, noting that the film's intensity and pressure build throughout, creating a captivating atmosphere. He remarked, "The film doesn’t chase trends; it boldly asserts that Indian cinema can thrive without mimicking Hollywood, remaining true to its roots while being globally appealing."

Responding to Varma's accolades, Dhar shared his admiration for Varma's influential works that inspired his filmmaking journey. Dhar reflected, "As a fan, I came to Mumbai with a dream of working with Ram Gopal Varma. His films taught me to think outside the box, and to receive such recognition from him is surreal and overwhelming."

Featuring an impressive cast, including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, and R. Madhavan, 'Dhurandhar' was released on December 5 and has already grossed over ₹500 crore in India and ₹700 crore worldwide.

The film intricately weaves together covert intelligence operations against a backdrop of significant historical events, including the Kandahar plane hijacking and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

Produced by Dhar and Lokesh Dhar under B62 Studios in collaboration with Jio Studios, 'Dhurandhar' marks a new chapter in the evolution of Indian cinema.
