Shobhaa De Defends Bollywood’s Unity Amid AR Rahman’s Controversial Remarks
In a recent statement, renowned author and columnist Shobhaa De addressed AR Rahman's controversial remarks regarding the Hindi film industry. Rahman claimed that changes in power dynamics have affected his opportunities in Bollywood, which he described as a potential communal issue.
De responded to these claims, labeling them as 'very dangerous' and emphasizing that Bollywood has remained free from communal tension for the past 50 years. She stated, 'I don't know why he's made it; you should ask him. But I've been watching Bollywood for 50 years. And if I've seen any place that is free of any kind of communal tension, it is Bollywood.'
Furthermore, she countered Rahman's assertion about a lack of work, arguing that talent is what truly determines opportunities in the industry. 'If you have talent, you will get a chance. If you don't have talent, there's no question of religion being a factor,' she noted.
AR Rahman, in his interview, expressed that he felt a shift in the industry over the last eight years, suggesting that non-creative individuals now hold power. However, he clarified that he had not personally experienced prejudice and was content with his career.
Since his remarks surfaced, they have ignited a wave of discussion online, with many questioning his perspective on the evolving Bollywood landscape.
