Channing Tatum’s ‘Magic Mike Live’ Set to Dazzle New York City

Channing Tatum is set to bring the stage adaptation of his popular film franchise, “Magic Mike,” to New York City, aiming to elevate the already electrifying show.

Opening on October 8, the event will take place in a specially designed 425-seat immersive venue at the former Copacabana nightclub located at the corner of 47th Street and 8th Avenue.

Tatum expressed excitement, stating, “We’re going to turn the gas up a little bit and make it a little hotter. It’s New York, so you’ve got to throw everything at it.”

“Magic Mike Live” redefines the conventional male review by prioritizing the female audience at a time when traditional masculinity is under scrutiny.

The show features 13 muscular male dancers and a female MC, blending songs, aerial acrobatics, comedy, and optional audience participation.

Co-director Alison Faulk describes the performance as “a dance spectacular with a sexy twist,” emphasizing that sexy can encompass humor, athleticism, and intelligence. She highlights the unique atmosphere designed specifically to cater to women, offering a fun and relaxing night out.

The performance will include popular tracks like Ginuwine’s “Pony,” 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop,” and original music, delivering an unforgettable experience.

The creators envision the venue as a fusion of a stylish nightclub and a theatrical space, complete with multiple bars and various seating options.

Vincent Marini, the creative director, aims to surprise and delight the audience, likening their approach to that of Cirque du Soleil's transformation of circus entertainment.

Tatum, who has firsthand experience in male revues, aims to break away from the misogynistic narratives of the past. He reflects on his time in those shows, stating, “It’s gross a little bit. I did it for about 10 months and was shocked by the experience.”

Since the film's success, “Magic Mike Live” has expanded from Las Vegas to locations in London, Berlin, and Australia, with the New York version tailored to reflect the city's unique vibe.

Marini notes that audience reactions vary by city, and the role of the MC significantly influences the show's atmosphere. He asserts this New York production represents the culmination of years of development, aiming to present the best iteration of the show yet.
