Yash Raj Films Responds to Controversy Over Missing Girls Data in Mardaani 3 Promotion

Last week, Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji made her return to cinemas portraying Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 3. In this installment, her character races to investigate the alarming disappearance of 93 young girls over three months.

Following the film's release, a report by PTI, citing official Delhi Police data, gained traction. The report claimed that 807 individuals went missing in Delhi during the first half of January, igniting widespread concern. However, Delhi Police later clarified that the surge in reports regarding missing persons was linked to 'paid promotions', drawing attention to Mardaani 3.

In response to the backlash, Yash Raj Films issued a statement asserting their commitment to ethical practices. A spokesperson stated, “Yash Raj Films is a 50-year-old company founded on the principles of ethics and transparency. We firmly deny accusations that our promotional campaign for Mardaani 3 has sensationalized such a sensitive issue.”

This morning, Delhi Police tweeted about the situation, stating, “After following some leads, we discovered that the hype surrounding the increase in missing girls is being pushed via paid promotions. Creating panic for financial gain will not be tolerated.”

Moreover, the police urged the public not to succumb to rumors regarding missing children while warning about potential legal action against those spreading misinformation. They emphasized their dedication to the safety of children in the city.

Despite the controversy, Mardaani 3 has received enthusiastic reviews from both audiences and critics. The film has also achieved significant box office success, crossing the ₹25 crore mark within its first week.
