Deepika Padukone Calls for Urgent Action on Mumbai’s Air Quality Crisis
Mumbai is currently grappling with severe air pollution, prompting Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone to voice her concerns. On Thursday, residents awoke to a smog-filled city, significantly impacting visibility.
Deepika took to Instagram to highlight the alarming Air Quality Index (AQI) levels, which she believes pose a serious threat to public health, especially for children. She expressed her frustration, stating, "The citizens of this city and its children are choking! How is this okay!?" She tagged local authorities, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, urging them to take immediate action.
As of now, Mumbai's AQI has reached 159, categorized as 'unhealthy.' Other actors, like Saiyami Kher and Richa Chadha, have also spoken out about the deteriorating air quality in the city. Saiyami shared her memories of running along Carter Road and lamented the necessity of wearing a mask, while Richa referred to the situation as a "manmade tragedy," criticizing the lack of awareness about the issue.
In addition to her activism, Deepika Padukone is set to appear in the upcoming film 'King,' alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, slated for release on December 24. She is also involved in a sci-fi project titled 'AA22 A6,' expected to hit theaters in 2027.
