Kapoor Family Takes Legal Action to Protect Sridevi’s Chennai Property

Producer Boney Kapoor, along with his daughters Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor, has approached the Madras High Court to contest claims regarding a Chennai property that belonged to their late wife and mother, Sridevi. The family is responding to an order from the Additional District Judge in Chengalpattu that refused to dismiss a plaint related to the property located near the East Coast Road.

The case was brought to the court's attention on March 16, 2026, and is set to be heard again on March 26, 2026, during which further proceedings in the district court have been stayed.

A woman named Chandrabanu and her two children, M.C. Sivakami and M.C. Natarajan, filed the suit, claiming entitlement to a share of the estate. They assert that the sale deeds through which Sridevi and her sister acquired the 4.7-acre property are fraudulent and seek to have them declared null and void, alleging their rights due to ancestral claims.

Boney Kapoor has previously filed a legal response, labeling the claims as an attempted fraud. He argues that the plaintiffs' claim lacks a legal basis, citing issues with the marriage of Chandrabanu, which he claims was void due to existing marital ties at the time.

Furthermore, he challenges the timing of the plaint, filed 37 years after the original deeds, arguing that such claims are barred by limitations. The plaintiffs counter that no time limit exists for partitioning undivided immovable properties.

Boney Kapoor married Sridevi in June 1996, and they had two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi. Sridevi's tragic passing on February 24, 2018, left a significant impact on the film industry and her fans.
