Rani Kapur Pursues Removal of Priya Kapur from RK Family Trust
Sunjay Kapur's mother, Rani Kapur, is seeking the removal of Priya Kapur from the RK Family Trust amidst a legal dispute regarding his multimillion-dollar estate. This latest development comes following claims from Sunjay's children with his former wife, Karisma Kapoor, who allege that Priya forged Sunjay's will.
Rani Kapur has issued a formal notice invoking sections of the trust deed dated October 26, 2017, which allows her to act against Priya's role as trustee. The notice, dated March 21, raises concerns about the trust's validity and administration, claiming that assets held by the trust are Rani's own.
According to the notice, Priya was appointed as a trustee during a meeting allegedly held on June 25, 2025, after Sunjay's passing. However, the existence and legitimacy of the RK Family Trust are currently being challenged in the Delhi High Court.
Claims by Rani Kapur
Rani's notice highlights that the trust's validity is under scrutiny. She asserts that Priya's position as trustee is questionable and plans to remove her after a 15-day notice period, as outlined in Clause 8.12(i) of the trust deed, which allows for such an action without the need for justification.
Rani emphasizes that this action does not affect her ongoing legal claims regarding the trust's creation and the appointment of trustees. Regardless of the trust's potential validity, she insists that Priya will have no authority to act as a trustee after the notice period.
Sunjay Kapur, who was the chairman of Sona Comstar, had a tumultuous personal life marked by his marriage to Karisma Kapoor in 2003, with whom he shares two children. Their divorce in 2016 led to his marriage with Priya, with whom he fathered a son.
This legal battle continues to unfold, reflecting the complexities of inheritance and family dynamics following Sunjay's death.
