Sikh Community Files FIR Against Dhurandhar 2 for Disrespecting Gurbani

The film Dhurandhar 2, directed by Aditya Dhar and featuring R Madhavan, has sparked controversy due to a scene that many in the Sikh community deem disrespectful. In the disputed sequence, Madhavan's character is seen smoking a cigarette while reciting a sacred verse from the Dasam Granth, authored by Guru Gobind Singh.

An FIR was lodged at Mulund Police Station by Gurjyot Singh Keer, a leader of the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and president of 'Sikhs in Maharashtra'. The complaint names R Madhavan, Ranveer Singh, and director Aditya Dhar for their roles in this portrayal.

In a statement shared on Instagram, Gurjyot expressed his outrage, stating, "I strongly condemn the blatant disrespect shown towards Gurbani by the makers of Dhurandhar 2. The depiction of a character smoking while reciting sacred verses is deeply hurtful and unacceptable. Gurbani holds immense spiritual significance for the Sikh community."

He urged the Sikh community to unite and peacefully protest against the film, calling for black flags to be shown to the involved parties if they fail to apologize to the SGPC and the Sikh community. "Respect every faith. This is not creativity; this is disrespect," he emphasized.

Gurjyot further noted that the verse recited in the film was written during a time of oppression, highlighting the need for sensitivity towards sacred texts. He called for peaceful protests and an immediate apology from the filmmakers and lead actors.

The controversy has gained traction on social media, with users sharing critiques and images related to the film. Despite the backlash, Dhurandhar 2 continues to perform well at the box office, with the filmmakers yet to respond officially to the FIR or the growing concerns from the Sikh community.
