Hrithik Roshan Defends Ramayana’s VFX Amid Criticism: A Call for Thoughtful Discussion
Ramayana is set to be one of the most anticipated films in the Indian cinema landscape. Recently, the teaser featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Rama was met with mixed reactions, particularly regarding its VFX, which some have likened to video game graphics.
In light of the backlash, actor Hrithik Roshan took to Instagram to voice his support for the film's creators. He acknowledged that while poor VFX can detract from the viewing experience, it is essential to consider the intent behind the visual effects.
“Yes, bad VFX exists and can be painful to watch, especially in films I am part of,” he noted, reflecting on his personal experiences with visual storytelling.
Roshan reminisced about how watching 'Back to the Future' as a child inspired his passion for cinema, likening the current filmmakers to heroes for their ambition and creativity. He praised the makers of films like Ramayana, stating, “They take risks for the love of cinema, allowing audiences to experience something new.”
He further elaborated on the different styles of VFX, explaining that not all effects need to adhere to photorealism. “Critiquing a style simply because it doesn’t meet personal expectations isn’t fair,” he said. “Instead, ask if it serves the story.”
Roshan concluded his post with a call for audiences to engage in thoughtful discussions about VFX, urging them to appreciate the artistic choices made by filmmakers.
