IIT Kanpur Class of 2000 Sets Record with ₹100 Crore Donation

In a remarkable display of alumni generosity, the Class of 2000 from the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur has pledged an astounding ₹100 crore to their alma mater during their silver jubilee reunion.

This gesture marks the largest alumni contribution ever made by a single batch across all Indian academic institutions, setting a new benchmark in alumni philanthropy.

The pledge, announced during a gathering on Sunday, underscores the batch's profound gratitude towards IIT-K and a collective commitment to enhancing the institution's academic excellence, research capabilities, and societal contributions. They plan to establish the Millennium School of Technology and Society at IIT-K with this significant contribution.

The reunion was a momentous occasion, reuniting alumni from around the world to reconnect with their peers, faculty, and the institute, while reaffirming their dedication to the institution's future growth.

IIT-K Director Manindra Agrawal hailed the pledge as a powerful affirmation of the enduring bond shared between the alumni and the institute.

"This extraordinary donation of ₹100 crore fortifies our academic and research ecosystem and will inspire future generations to give back to the institution that shaped their careers," he stated.

Amey Karkare, Dean of Resources and Alumni, expressed that this pledge exemplifies the spirit of alumni engagement.

"The Class of 2000 has demonstrated how collaborative alumni efforts can lead to transformative impacts for students, faculty, and society as a whole," he remarked.

On behalf of his batch, Naveen Tewari, a prominent alumnus, emphasized that IIT-K has significantly influenced their careers and mindsets.

"Our time at IIT-K instilled in us the courage to think big and question norms. This pledge is our way of ensuring future generations have equal or even greater opportunities," he asserted.

Batch Coordinator Tamal Das noted that the reunion was filled with nostalgia and a renewed sense of responsibility.
