Nagaland Teachers’ Strike Proposal: Agitation Paused Until June 30

Kohima, the Core Committee of the All Nagaland Ad-hoc Teachers Group -2015 proposed to temporarily suspend their strike until June 30. This decision follows a proposal from the Directorate of School Education.

The committee will finalize their decision during a general body meeting on Saturday. The Directorate had previously urged the teachers to halt their protests regarding the regularization of 1,166 ad-hoc teachers, promising to resolve the issues transparently.

In a letter to the convenor, Principal Director Shashank Pratap Singh mentioned that key documents such as sanction post order numbers and appointment orders were missing and would be escalated to the relevant authorities for alternative solutions.

Singh assured that legitimate cases would be reviewed according to established procedures, with administrative measures in place to verify records and resolve discrepancies.

After convening an emergency meeting, the Core Committee agreed to pause the protest in good faith, acknowledging the government's assurances but set a deadline of June 30 for the completion of necessary arrangements for regularization.

Committee members indicated that their proposal has been submitted to the principal director, and they await the government's response. However, the decision to suspend the agitation is still subject to approval from the general members, who have been protesting since February 4.

Previously, the teachers had organized a march to the state secretariat and conducted a three-day hunger strike. A general body meeting held recently was inconclusive and will continue on Saturday for a final decision.
