Dr. Sood explains that choline is vital for building brain cell membranes and supporting cognitive functions. He admits that while 900 mg of choline is not a magical solution for teaching newborns to read, it is essential for brain development. Choline aids in forming cell membranes in the developing brain and is involved in neurotransmitter production, which is critical for attention and learning.

Benefits of Increased Choline Intake

Research suggests that higher maternal choline intake, especially through supplements, may lead to subtle enhancements in a child's cognitive abilities. However, Dr. Sood points out that these improvements are not guaranteed and should not be viewed as miraculous.
