Sudipto Sen Clarifies His Comments on The Kerala Story 2

Director Sudipto Sen, known for his work on The Kerala Story, has recently addressed comments he made regarding filmmaking based on WhatsApp forwards. He clarified that these remarks were misinterpreted and were not aimed at the producers of The Kerala Story 2.

At the launch of his upcoming project, Charak, Sudipto stated, “My words were distorted.” He explained that during the making of the original film, he devoted significant time to research, which he felt was essential for creating a responsible narrative.

He elaborated, saying, “When I was involved in planning The Kerala Story 2, I communicated that I lacked the extensive background knowledge required for its broader themes, which now include stories from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.”

In a recent interview, Sudipto expressed that the depth of research he undertook for the first film couldn’t be replicated for the sequel, which has expanded its focus beyond Kerala. He emphasized that sensitive topics demand thorough investigation and a strong foundation, stating, “I cannot rely on WhatsApp forwards or newspaper articles for such important storytelling.”

In other news, The Kerala Story 2 has faced legal challenges, leading to a temporary stay on its release. However, this has since been lifted, allowing the film to debut as scheduled. Sudipto mentioned that he has not seen the sequel and prefers to allow the censor board to make appropriate decisions regarding its content.

His new film, Charak, is set to release on March 6, and he looks forward to sharing this new project with audiences.
